Module 2 - School Resourcing

Managing Your School guides help identify what we need to know. (Note the Financial and Property guides are considered below.) Go through the valuable Administrative Links and in particular Resourcing Forms and Templates.

Work your way through each one in a reflective frame of mind. Remember change in regulation is common so check you have taken note of the date shown on any MOE online pages and any recent notices provided about school resources. Keep your hand off the mouse as you consider the sources – give yourself time to think as you review the regulation in the light of achievement goals. Decide how you will maintain the ability to access these sources of information in the future!

Extremely helpful site that will be filed away for future reference. I use to think ‘I never want to become a principal because I hate dealing with the staffing, finance and property side of schools’ My eyes have now been opened to the fact that as a Principal you never make these decisions on your own. Attended 2 BOT meetings about finance and property, full on in-depth discussions around how to deal with property issues, who to see at MOE, how to talk your way around confrontational issues, how to re-apply for an increase in staffing (or just getting the same staff numbers as you had before, even if you only lost one student on your roll returns) and how and when to discuss financial issues and budgets with your finance officer. I learnt that the closest people I will deal with as a principal is my BOT boardchair, my finance director, my property manager, my Deputy principals and my personal/school secretary.
