It is expected that the following special targets for nga tamariki O Te Kura Takawaenga O Kelston will “Narrow the Focus” for achievement and learning in this Essential Learning Area.

It is our expectation that this will occur through……

• The students developing the skills, concepts, understandings and attitudes which will enable them to cope confidently with the Mathematics of everyday life.

• Algebra is the basis to mathematical concepts and understanding for students in everyday life.

• Learning is based on “real world” examples to allow students to practice and reinforce learning independently.

• Students are motivated to develop a love of mathematics through relevant and specific learning opportunities designed for them and their ability.

• Maths learning programmes are designed to allow students to develop ability in all strand areas of the Mathematics Curriculum.

• Teachers fostering and developing Mathematical talent using styles that promote the children’s use of prior knowledge and cultural understanding of mathematical concepts.

• Teachers helping students to achieve the Mathematical and Statistical literacy needed in a society which is technologically oriented and information rich.

It is expected that the following special targets for nga tamariki O Te Kura Takawaenga o Kelston will “Narrow the Focus” for achievement and learning in this Essential Learning Area.

It is our expectation that this will occur through……

• Students will have confidence to speak in a variety of situations in English

• Students will have an appropriate level of proficiency in the two interconnected strands,

  • making meaning of ideas or information they receive (Listening, Reading and Viewing)

  • creating meaning for themselves and others (Speaking, Writing, and Presenting)

• Students will learn appropriate processes and strategies to develop knowledge, skills, and understanding.

• Students will have a knowledge and appreciation of NZ literature (local and national) and overseas literature.

• Students will have the skills to present their work using multi media.

It is expected that the following special targets for nga tamariki O Te Kura Takawaenga O Kelston will “Narrow the Focus” for achievement and learning in this Essential Learning Area.

It is our expectation that……

• Students will develop confidence to speak in a variety of situations in Te Reo Maori, articulate their whakapapa orally and in written form in Te Reo Maori and use appropriate levels of Te Reo Maori.

• Students will demonstrate understanding of cultural practices i.e.: Powhiri, Karakia, Sasa etc 

• Students will communicate greetings of the different cultures in our school appropriately and in context.

(E.g., Kiaora, Kiaorana, Talofa Lava, Malo Lelei, Ni Hao etc…)

• Students have the opportunity to learn another language and are given the opportunity to use their own language within our learning contexts.

• Students and teachers names are pronounced properly and priority is given to ensure this occurs.

 

KIS PE & HEALTH PRACTICING PRINCIPLES

             Positive feelings in your heart will enhance your sense of self-worth.

 

It is expected that the following special targets for nga tamariki O Te Kura Takawaenga O Kelston will “Narrow the Focus” for achievement and learning in this Essential Learning Area.

It is our expectation that this will occur through……

• Student’s involvement in situations that will challenge them physically, emotionally, mentally and socially.

• Students developing appropriate motor skills and an understanding of strategy in non-competitive and competitive environments in a progressive manner.

• Students develop fair play skills that encourage supporting one another and accepting the different skill and ability levels of others.

• Students understand and display socially and culturally respectful practices towards the diverse cultural values held in this area within our school setting and wider community.

• Students develop positive hygiene and healthy eating practices and develop their knowledge around how positive and negative health choices impact on their personal well-being.
