It's the start of something new....

Yay - it's the start of something new!

Last year was an exciting journey and I learnt a huge amount from my investigation. I learnt that assessment is a complex tool that is used by many for a variety of reasons but the main goal is still the same..... to lift the achievement of all students involved.

My research led me to think about the purpose of why and what we assess, which assessment tools work for our students, who uses what assessment and what is their purpose (mainly how MOE use asTTle, PATs and other tools for NZ testing AND how these results are used to report on NZ student achievement), which assessments work for our students, how testing impacts on OTJs and vice versa. Although I had many questions (and then came out with more and more) I answered many of them through various other researchers, professional discussions with collegues and my own thoughts. I think the most valuable part for me has been the professional discussions with others around why we do what we do.
